I worked on the first Dungeons and Dragons themed slot machine created by Konami. This Red Dragon needed to be under 10k polygons. I created the model in Maya then exported the obj file to layout the UVs in Headus UV Layout. From there it was painted in Zbrush with a lot of cleanup to the texture file in Photoshop.

This is the most complex model I’ve rigged, however when you break it down, it’s just a more complex version of the biped rig I use. The wings are very much like arms with long fingers in the wing membrane. The movement of those fingers which spread out the wings is created using Set Driven Keys on the rotation of the finger bones. The tail is another IK Spline much like the spine and neck of a bipedal character.

The face movement is a combination of bones and Set Driven keys and Blend Shapes.

I used the same workflow to create the fighter. I started with a stock male model and modified accordingly.
